Spring Reunion Banquet of The Chemistry Institute

Reception for Professor Yiying Wu
Professor Yiying Wu is currently affiliated with the department of chemistry at the Ohio State University, US. WIth the financial support by Chemistry Promotion Center and hosting by Dr. Kuo, Professorr Wu archived his speech tour in Taiwan from Apr 7 to Apr 10. Joint BBQ Retreat
The annual spring retreat is held on Apr 19, together with the gorups of Professor Michael Huang (NTHU) and Professor Jer-Shing Huang (NTHU). Reception for Professor Michael H. Huang
Professor Michael H. Huang from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) was invited to our seminar on Apr 24. After his talk, we had a relaxing dinner gather. Summer Retreat and Joint Meeting with Professor Jer-Shing Huang
A summer retreat was held at Kenting together with the group of Professor Jer-Shing Huang (NTHU) on Jul 28 & 29. To strengthen our communication and relationship for better collaboration, we had a meeting marathon through whole night about six hours.

 

Fairwell, Welcome and Birthday Luncheon
On Aug 29, we had our first fairwell and welcome luncheon combined with Chih-Wen's birthday party. Fairwell for Salwanee "in memory of" her contribution in our lab. She came Taiwan on Jul 4 as one of the TIGP-IIP students and left on Sep 1, back to Thailand to finish her master degree. Besides, we also welcome our new members to join. In the picture top right, people are Shi-Cheng, Ka Chon, Wei-Jei, I-Chi, Po-Heng, Chih-Wen, Salwanee and Chun-Hong.

 

Celeberation on Settling Down of KCH Lab
We couldn't be happier that we finally settled down in A201 & A203 on Oct 18 (Sat). It's a great day for not only the begin of the legend of KCH lab but also the hope of students pursuing graduation. Let's cheers and bottom up!

 

 

 

Annual Young Chemist Meeting
On Feb 5 and 6, the 3rd Annual Young Chemist Meeting was held at West Lake Resortopia (西湖渡假村) in Maoli city. Many young faculty from NTU, NTHU and Academia Sinica gathered up there to share their research results with both of posters and presentation. Chih-Wen was our representativein oral talk and three posters were contributed by Sonya, Tika, I-Chi, Shih-Cheng and Wei-Jie.

 

Chinese Year End Lunch
The happy celeberation on the end of Chinese Horse Year was held in the Raku Kitchen on Feb 13. Everybody worked hard. I hereby sincerely thank all of your efforts and wish you can keep going.

 

Professor Dunwei Wang's Visit
Dunwei is currently one of the faculty in the department of chemistry, Boston College. His research expertise is on the renewable energy generators. His visit from Jun 7 to 13 brought us a bunch of information. Totally, he stopped by four stations, NCHU, NTHU, NTU and IOC in Academia Sinica.

 

Congratulations to Sonya & Tika
This summer, two girls from Indonesia won the tickets flying home as their hard working. In the past short period of nine months, they were sincerely appreciated for their contribution in this group. Hope they have shining futures.

 

Summer Retreat & Meeting
Keng Ting! We come again. On Jul 26, our group moved to the very southern tail of the Taiwan land. We had group meeting, walking night market, and playing on the beach. Wanna join us? Please contact us whenever we have positions released.

 

Birthday Banquet (?) of The Group Leader
Well, it was a great favor from students. The banquet was held in the Thai restaurant "CRYSTAL SPOON (晶湯匙)" at CityLink. Indeed, it's an good option to have delicious foods with acceptable price.

 

Secret Santa
A big day for Christmas! We played Secret Santa game while our group meeting. Apparently, all looked happy with satisfaction. Afterward, we had a cooking party of sweet soup dumplings.

 

 

 

Chinese Year End Dinner
On Feb 4, It was the last day for working in the lab. We had a big group cleaning and went enjoying the big dinner in AMBASSDOR Hotel. Prof. Michael Huang was the special guest.

 

Lab-Resting Dinning
On May 9 & 11, we had lab-resting dinner gathering. The hot pot was really good. Ya~

 

Labor's Fun Day
On May 14, the labors in KCH lab had a fun trip at Fulong (福隆) beach where the world sand sculpting competition was held.

 

Ka Chon's Farewell Party
On May 18, it a big day. Ka Chon who received the offer by The Ohio State University treated all at Le Blé d'Or (金色三麥). Taking chance of the big event, we had a follow-up KTV party at Holidays as well.

 

Annual Meeting Of Ceramics Scoiety
In the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Taiwan Ceramics Society, our lab flower Dai-Ning won the honorable mention which proves her efforts amd ability. A pretty girl did a pretty good job.

 

Celebration After Final Defense
On Jul 20 (left) and 21, we held the dinner celebration for the 2nd-year MS students. Congratulations to your graduation!

Thank Dai-Ning for being the poster representative of KCH group in the Sunney Chan lecture. Her presnetation attitude, skill and language are apparantly more excellent than she was. A big success although missed the award.

Feb 9, faculty and students from department of chemistry, Mahidol University Thailand came visiting IOC to initiate the possibility in exchanging student program.

On Dec 2, Dr. Kuo gave a talk in the annual event of Chinese Chemical Society at Natinoal Chiayi University.

 

 

KCH Open Symposium
Feb 12, it was an unprecendented trial of the KCH group to have an open symposium for all IOC members and collaboratied groups. In the symposium, Reddy, Ai-Hsuan, Jason, Chen-Rui, Ruo-Fang, and Ben shared their summarized reserach progresses and received challenges from others, including PIs. Thank them, plus all other labmates who helped arrange the event, for all the great efforts.

 

Chinese-Year-End Dinner
Feb 13, a great dinner at the Shin Yeh-Japanese Restaurant for our Chinese-Year-End celebration. The all-you-can-eat style crammed up our stomachs with a fair price. Specially thank Prof. Tei-Wei Chiu for coming.

Liu Qiu Retreat
Aug 12-14, a big summer retreat of KCH group came again. Beside an unforgottable group meeting in an old house, many joyful activities refreshed those guys' minds and purified their souls (I wish....).

 

Excellent Young Chemist Award of CSLT
Dec 8, KCH group received the Excellent Young Chemist Award of CLST, which show their efforts so far have been recognized. Confidently, the young group will be going better and better.

 

 

 

 

Cross-School Young Faculty Banquet
Jan 11, the cross-school young faculty banquet came back. It has been the fifth-time social by which we could know more young members in the small scientific community of Taiwan other than the typical interaction among elder PIs. The banquet fully serves a platform to excite cross-school collaborations and assistances among us. Taiwan is small, let's team up to fight against other evil empires.

 

Ruo-Fang & Allen's Farewell Banquet
Jan 21, it came my only welfare day when I don't need to pay. Thank Ruo-Fang and Allen for the efforts in the past duration.

 

Chinese-Year-End Banquet
Jan 31, as usual, the biggest and final thankful banquet for all KCH members and collaborators. We all hope that the coming pig year will offer the KCH group more fortune to be productive and internationally famous.

 

Prof. Yiying Wu Visit Tour
May 5/11-5/18, Prof. Yiying Wu (Dept of Chem, OSU) again visited Taiwan after his last time in 2104. He was invited to NCKU, NCU, and NCTU for academic activities, and stopped by Taipei to have further interaction with friends. Top is the photo to record Yiying's activity in Dept of MSE, NCU. Bottom is the memory photo for the lunch gathering with the couple Prof. Li-Chiang Lin (currently assistant professor in Dept of Chem Eng in OSU) and Dr. Kuo.

 

Farewell and Welcome KTV Party
July 1, we hold a KTV party to appreciate the intern student Jason for his contribtions in his 2-month visit and celebrate 4 new members who just join the group on the same day.

 

KCH Lab Retreat

 

July 28-30, here comes the KCH lab retreat! This year, we rent three cars heading to Kenting. Before arrival, we all had a big pork lunch. We also had our group meeting in the first night. The second day, young guys had very much fun playing paintball game, water on beach, and Go Kart. The third day, we drove up to Chiayi Winery Wine Museum for taking the guidance in beer and liquor tasting. Afterwards, we all moved to famous Chiayi night market on the Culture Street. With a happy ending, we held our good mood yet tire-out bodies going home by THSR.

 

Break after Asian Chemistry Conference
2019-Asian Chemistry Conference, a great event held every two years. The international conference attracted four Nobel Prize Laureates and many distinguished scientists to join. After a coupl days of meeting agenda, I am honored to have a drink gathering with several my close friends, especially my PhD supervisor and postdoc mentor. A monment worth to cherish.

 

 

One-day Trip in NCU
Jan 15, it was a big day for Ibrahim who finished his final defense. The whole lab was pulled to NCU for a one-day trip and had a nice lunch. "Do you see the waitress behind me......? Can you really see her!?"

 

Chinese-Year-End Banquet
Jan 20, we had a dinner gathering to welcome the end of Pig year. My labors, to my best knowledge, were expecting a lot in the coming Rat year such as "graduation...", "leaving...", "getting richer...", and so on. As for my wish... what do you think?

Jan 21, after a marathon with all to check the slides for Chemistry Day, we had a little happiness. BTW, when will be the Chemistry Day?

 

After Lab Cleaning
Jan 22, as usual, we had cleaned the lab up in order to get bad luck out. Everyone seems to tired but relaxed. Let see if you can find someone still in bad luck.
